Webace 2

[Previous | Contents | Next]

Webace is the original web interface to ACEDB, and we will be using version 2. It presents a simple form based interface to the database, and supports interactive ACEDB graphics for most displays. It also has a decent query interface.

Note: an enhanced version of Webace is now available, called WebAce2k. This features cross liks to AceBrowser and slightly different displays.

Note: click on the images below to go to that object in the database.

Webace
Start page. Showing the classes in the database and the number of objects in each class.

Technique: Select the class and click on the "Browse Class" button to go to the key list for that class. Then select the appropriate sublist and click the "get sublist" button (if necessary). Then select the desired object and click the "show object(s)" button to see the database entry for that object.

Task: use the method above to get to the map N1_N-fo-61-9.

Webace
Genetic map N1_N-fo-61-9.

Task: going back to the main page (use your bowser's back button) find the object shown below.

Webace
Generic object display of a paper showing cross links to Agricola.

Task: again going back to the main page display the sequence EM:H07368. You should get a display similar to the one below. Try looking at the individual blast hits (blue bars) by clicking on the graphic. Click on the "List Homologies" button and see the blast hits in a different form.

Webace
Sequence EM:H07368. Showing blast hits for the sequence against SPTrEMBL.

Task: going back to the display shown above, click on the "View as text" link (near the top). You should now have the display shown below. Explore the cross-links to other data sources.

You should now have a feel for how to use the database browsing capabilities of Webace. So lets move on and have a look at AceBrowser.
